In industrial plants, water is one of the determinants of both operating cost and equipment life. Biofilm in cooling towers and heat exchangers, Legionella risk, and the cleaning load of process equipment all need to be managed reliably and with as little chemical handling as possible.
Cooling and process circuits
Hypochlorous acid dosed into cooling towers keeps biofilm growth and Legionella risk under control. Biofilm on heat-exchanger and pipe surfaces also degrades heat transfer and promotes corrosion beneath it; a continuous, monitored residual keeps it from re-establishing. Dosing points and rates are set to each circuit.
Caustic on site
The cell in the Aquamirus E.C.A. system produces sodium hydroxide (caustic) at the cathode as its second output. In industrial plants caustic is a routine chemical: it can be used for alkaline cleaning and CIP of process equipment, and for pH correction in process circuits. Producing it on site alongside the disinfectant reduces the volume of hazardous chemicals the plant has to buy, transport and store.

What is provided for cooling-tower water?
Hypochlorous acid dosed into cooling circuits keeps biofilm and Legionella risk under control. Dosing is continuous and monitored rather than intermittent, so biofilm is not given time to re-establish between treatments.
What is the caustic output used for?
The sodium hydroxide produced at the cathode of the cell in the Aquamirus E.C.A. system can be used on site for alkaline cleaning, CIP and pH correction in process circuits, reducing the caustic the plant has to buy in. Its use is planned around the plant's processes.
Does Skytech treat process water or wastewater?
No. Skytech's scope is on-site disinfection: the Aquamirus E.C.A. system produces hypochlorous acid and caustic from salt, water and electricity and doses them where they are needed. Water treatment and wastewater recovery are outside that scope.
