Healthcare

In healthcare facilities, water is a matter of both patient safety and infection control. Hot-water lines, cooling towers and surfaces are parts of a single hygiene chain.

FIG. 03 Healthcare

Water safety in healthcare facilities does not end at a single point: drinking and utility water, hot-water plumbing, cooling towers, dialysis and laboratory water, surface and space hygiene. Each carries a different risk profile and is part of the infection-control programme.

Legionella control in water lines

Hot-water plumbing and cooling towers are prime Legionella risk points. With NIMBUS, continuous low-dose hypochlorous acid suppresses biofilm formation on the lines. The ability of hypochlorous acid to penetrate the biofilm layer provides more stable and measurable control than intermittent shock chlorination.

Pure-water needs

Dialysis, sterilisation and laboratory applications require a defined pure-water quality. STRATUS reverse-osmosis stages are engineered as pre-treatment and pure-water lines for these needs; the final quality is verified against the relevant standard.

Surface and space hygiene

Because on-site hypochlorous acid solution is non-irritating to staff and patients at working concentration, it can also be used for surface and space disinfection. A single generation unit at the same facility can feed both the water line and surface hygiene.

Frequently asked questions

What approach is used for Legionella control?

Continuous low-dose hypochlorous acid is applied to hot and cold water lines to suppress biofilm formation. The biofilm-penetrating power of hypochlorous acid provides more stable control than conventional shock chlorination.

Can hypochlorous acid be used for surface disinfection?

Yes. Non-irritating at working concentrations, hypochlorous acid can be applied to surface and space disinfection without leaving residue; it is an increasingly common method in healthcare facilities.

Is pure water provided for dialysis and laboratories?

STRATUS reverse-osmosis stages are engineered for the pre-treatment and pure-water needs of dialysis and laboratory applications; final quality is verified against the relevant standard.
